Writing Culture: Experiments with the Letter

Date and Time: Saturdays, March 16 and April 20, 2019, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
As Catherine Field once wrote, “A good handwritten letter is a creative act. It is a deliberate act of exposure, a form of vulnerability, because handwriting opens a window on the soul in a way that cyber communication can never do.”
In this workshop, participants will explore the culture of letter-writing. We’ll study the incendiary “letters” written by James Baldwin and Ta-Nehisi Coates and find inspiration in missives by Lydia Davis, Rainer Maria Rilke and Leslie Marmon Silko.
