[Online] Dis/ability Studies: Confronting Ableism, Stigma and Privilege in Education

Every educator will encounter disabled students and grapple with how to successfully foster learning, equity and inclusion in diverse classrooms and schools. This online course introduces Dis/ability Studies in Education – a liberation movement discipline distinct from Special Education that offers unique insight into these endeavors.

Cultural Values, Intelligence, Bias, and Self-Awareness

How do we understand culture? How do we approach cultural differences? What are some key components for cultural effectiveness, and how do our cultural values intersect with biases we may experience?

This workshop will explore these questions and more, while providing a culture-general framework for effective cultural analysis that may be used in various situations and professional settings.

Transgender in America: Looking Back and Moving Forward

This workshop will arm participants with a better understanding of the complex personal, social, political and medical challenges that affect the lives of transgender people. Discussion will be relevant to those across the age spectrum, and include a retrospective examination of how generational attitudes toward gender diversity have impacted policies, civil and human rights, and access to healthcare.
