Type of strategy: Brainstorming and DiscussionEnergizers and State ChangersMovementOpeners & Get to Know You

Learning styles: EN: Extraversion and IntuitionES: Extraversion and Sensing

Move groups of people and have them discuss controversial issues.

Directions:

  1. Tell participants that one wall represents the opinion "That Sucks", and the other wall represents "That Rocks" and the middle represents no opinion.
  2. Through out controversial topics and have participants move to one of those places in the room.
  3. Set a timer for 4-6 minutes and take turns having participants share their opinion and why. Start with the least represented group.
  4. When the timer is up throw out a new topic.

Variations:

  • To allow the introverts an opportunity to share, have them turn to a partner and share their opinion before reporting out to whole group.
  • To allow introverts an opportunity to process, give them the topics in advance.

Topic Ideas:

  • School uniforms
  • Unblocking social media
  • Mobile devices for learning
  • Open enrollment
  • Report cards
  • Computer labs
  • Standardized testing
  • Any topic that may be an anticipatory set for a lesson or change being implemented.
