When learning new information, the learner needs frequent opportunities to process the information before moving on with more new learning. Quick writes can be used throughout a learning segment or at the end of the session.

Directions: 

Quick writes can be open-ended with the learner writing whatever they are thinking. "Write what you are thinking about this content." Another option is to provide the learner with one or two prompts for responding. "How might you use this information, skill, process, in another situation?" "How does this segment connect to what we did earlier today?"

Provide 2-5 minutes for the thinking/writing time. May be followed by a pair sharing time.
