Coded Nametags

Type of strategy: Group ManagementMovement

Use in situations when you know the names of participants and are making nametags ahead of time. Appropriate for full-day and multi-day workshops.

  1. Determine the coding system you wish to use. Colored dots, stickers, icons, and numbers all work well. Place the appropriate codes on the back of each nametag.
  2. During the workshop, instruct participants to regroup according to one of the codes on their nametag. If you have prior knowledge of participants you can pre-determine which people will be working together.

NOTE: The size of each group may vary with each code (e.g., colored dots – groups of three, stickers – groups of six, numbers – groups or four, etc.)
