In response to ODE’s 2018 Full-day Kindergarten Survey, this session highlights strategies that meet the developmental, social and emotional needs of young learners in full-day kindergarten. Examine the results of the survey and explore strategies to create a welcoming classroom community that supports learning outcomes. Practice using Oregon’s Early Learning and Kindergarten Guidelines to identify the developmental progressions of language, literacy, math, approaches to learning, and social-emotional development. Engage in active conversation about the role of play in the kindergarten classroom as a necessary and effective context for learning.
