Maps help to navigate the world around us, rooting us to a place and lending perspective about where we are. But maps can also provide a path as we journey back through memory, with all the precipices, rough road and lovely scenery contained there.

Our own stories often intersect with those entrusted to us by family, friends, and strangers; all are shaped by the cultures we inhabit. Using writing exercises and illustration, we will document our personal histories through our own life maps.

This Northwest Writing Institute workshop is designed for teachers and those in other “helping professions” who would like fresh ideas for a classroom or other professional practice, and for anyone who would like to deepen a writing practice and enhance observation skills.

Northwest Writing Institute classes are offered to teachers, counselors, parents, veterans, and all community members interested in the power of stories to help us understand and practice human connections for the good of all.
