Join Dr. Johnny Lake for this one-day experience, including the following: This is an interactive and experiential learning session to help participants to identify, develop and improve an effective foundation of knowledge and skills for individuals and institutions to understand and effectively work with Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and develop a practical framework of resources and strategies. This session will also help develop and enhance leadership skills in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work, engaging a rewarding process of learning, unlearning and relearning.

This session will help educators to stay engaged in addressing individual and institutional challenges. Continue to learn and use assets, resources and skills in your institution and community, remain sensitive to individual differences and diverse cultures, and encourage and support the participation of others different from us. We will work together to be continual learners and recognize that a process of learning and real change takes time and effort. We all deserve respect and the opportunity to process and to learn. Addressing diversity, inclusion and equity issues is not rocket science. With knowledge, practice and support, we will improve our skills and be more successful in the work related to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

Understand and apply accurate definitions of diversity, equity and inclusion, and social constructs such as race, culture, ethnicity in individual and institutional settings. Identify personal (individual) and professional (institutional) knowledge, beliefs and practices that impact our perceptions, understanding and skills related to diversity, inclusion, equity and identity issues. Recognize and respect our own and others racial and cultural identity, cultural patterns and expectations that operate in an institution and community setting.

“The world changes according to the way people see it, and if you can alter, even by a millimeter, the way people look at reality, then you can change the world.” -James Baldwin
