AES Reading Scoring Training with Artie Knight
Friday, December 8th, 2017
Cascades Room at Willamette ESD in Salem, OR

Scoring Training Focus:
• Overview and practice scoring work samples using ODE Scoring Guides
• Guidelines for selecting grade appropriate materials for developing work samples
• Overview of WESD’s ORSkills Assessment of Essential Skills App
Students graduating in 2018 will be required to demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing and mathematics. The purpose of the Essential Skills Assessments is to provide alternative assessments for students who need to demonstrate proficiency in order to obtain a high school diploma. The assessments target secondary students who possess the skills but who are not demonstrating those skills on the Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA). The training qualifies participating educators to score work samples in their districts, regionally and across the state. Districts are encouraged to send a team of teachers.

People who are new to the Writing Scoring Guide/Essential Skills should plan on attending the entire day. People who are experienced with the Writing Scoring Guide and just need an updated refresher/calibration are welcome to come for only the afternoon session. Those attending the Reading Scorer Training Dec. 6th will need to attend the entire day.
